The original QwikChord (named QuickChord) was a freeware application originally intended as a learning exercise. Author Lonnie R. West comments:
“I am a self-taught guitarist who learned by buying an old book of chords and learning how to play what I heard on the radio by ear. While learning to play this way tends to open one's mind to as a songwriter (you are more interested in mood than worrying about the technical details of the music), it hampers you when it comes to communicating to others.
After playing for well over 20 years, I decided to start taking guitar lessons because I wanted to be able to solo and improvise, a skill I never acquired that necessitated my learning --for the first time in my life-- music theory.
I learn faster when I have to explain something, so I started explaining how chords are formed to the computer... And ended up with what is in essence a "chord engine." You give it notes, it will tell you what chord you just made.
Once I realized what I had written, I put a simple interface on it and QwikChord was born. I posted it on my website and was amazed at how many people started downloading the program and writing me with suggestions. Quickly, it turned into a community effort driven mainly by the users of the program.”

This is the one that started it all! It is a very simple program with limited options, but it runs on any PC running Windows 98 or newer.

The trial version of QwikChord 3 is limited to the same set of features as offered on the original QuickChord 1 software. If all you want to do is create guitar chords, and do not need any other features, then look no further!
This gives you the ability to try out QwikChord before making a purchase to see if it is right for you. Of course, we hope you will notice the advance customization capabilities of QwikChord, and decide to purchase the full version.
INSTALLATION (Either version)
- Save the ZIP file to your computer,
- Unzip the contents to a folder on your computer
(the same folder as the ZIP file is OK) - Run Setup.exe to install
